Music Stands & Digital Devices
Choose a good music stand to hold up your violin sheet music and help maintain proper playing position. It's also a great idea to have a portable music stand so you can take it with you when you play music with friends. Having a desktop stand to use on your table or desk can also be useful, especially if you're sitting while practicing.
Have you ever thought about using a tablet or ipad for your violin music? Many musicians have digitized their sheet music as PDF files (some use MusicXML files) and now have access to thousands of musical scores they can play, directly from their digital device! One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a digital device, is to choose a screen size that is large enough. Many musicians find a 12" or larger screen to be easiest to read (e.g. the 12.9" iOS iPad Pro or the Android Microsoft Surface Pro 12.3" or Surface Book 2, 13.5" or 15").
Finding the right score reader to manage your digitized music is also important. Popular music software for this purpose include forScore for iOS devices and MobileSheets Pro for Android devices. It's also a great idea to have a practical way to turn pages on your device. A few options include pedal turns by companies such as AirTurn or PageFlip.
